Cost of Long Term Care in Canada

In British Columbia Daily Monthly
You pay up to 80% of your after tax income on a monthly basis to cover the cost of housing and hospitality services including meals, routine laundry and housekeeping, subject to a minimum and maximum monthly rate.  The monthly rate for long-term residential care services is determined as follows:    
A. If your income is less than $19,500 (Formula A):
• annual after tax income less $3,900, divided by 12; (minimum indicated).

B. If your income is equal to or greater than $19,500 (Formula B):
• annual after tax income multiplied by 80%, divided by 12.; (maximum indicated)

In New Brunswick

If a person can afford to pay their nursing home costs, they must do so. If a person feels they cannot afford the costs, they can apply to New Brunswick Nursing Home Services for a subsidy.

If you cannot pay the full standard accommodation charges, you can apply to have your rate reduced by undergoing an income - based financial assessment.  As part of the financial assessment, you’ll be asked to provide your income tax information.  A financial assessment considers your net income as well as the income of a spouse, partner and / or dependent child. Long-term care residents are not expected to pay more than 85% of their assessed income toward accommodation charges. The financial assessment does not take into account any assets you may have. $102.50 $3,117.71
In Prince Edward Island Daily Monthly
If the applicant’s assessed income is less than the cost of care, they are eligible for subsidization. The cost of care for determining eligibility is the monthly cost of accommodation plus a provision for comfort allowance. Assets are no longer required to be used to pay for long term care. $77.60 $2,360.33
Private pay residential care is determined by the provider.    
In Newfoundland and Labrador Daily Monthly
A financial assessment will have to be completed to determine if you are eligible to receive a subsidy toward this cost. The subsidy may cover the full amount or a portion of the cost.  A single individual can keep $10,000 and a couple can keep $20,000 in liquid assets, that is a possession or valuable that is in the form of cash, or can easily be converted to cash without losing much, if any, of its value and does not include your home. $92.05 $2,800.00
